REDUCE
your
global tire track with alternative fuels
Baby, you can drive my hybrid
If you’re still not sold on hybrid vehicles, it’s probably because you believe one of the following: ✔ They’re too small for comfort ✔ They’re not powerful enough ✔ They don’t really have style ✔ The price tag is way too high ✔ They aren’t really that fuel-efficient ✔ They don’t really help the environment
Today’s cars, trucks and SUVs are equipped with amenities including reclining seats, onboard phones, safety and security devices and global positioning systems. But have you considered your vehicle’s pollution tire track?
It’s getting easier to make even the shortest trip a sustainable adventure. The widely available American alternative fuels include biodiesel for diesel engines; compressed natural gas used in dedicated natural gas vehicles (NGVs); and ethanol (E-85) for use in flex fuel vehicles (FFVs).
The most readily available fuel is E-85, a mixture of
85 percent ethanol made from corn and 15 percent gasoline. E-85 reduces green house gas emissions
(GHGs) and pollution contributions to global warming. Ethanol can be used in any vehicle with an FFV logo or vehicle identification number
(VIN) that identifies it as ethanol-ready.

Well, hybrids have come a long way, baby, since they hit the road in 1999. Not only are they more stylish, roomy and powerful, but they’re also getting up to 60 miles to a gallon of gas, and producing as little as one tenth the greenhouse gas emissions of regular vehicles. And when it comes to the price tag, consider that you can save up to $1,000 on gas annually and may send Uncle Sam up to $3,000 less come April, and 23K doesn’t look bad at all.
