In the next six issues of Modern Traveler, our Going Green department will take an in-depth look at some ideas that can help you be a lighter traveler before you’ve even booked your tickets.

The following is a snapshot of the topics we’ll discuss in coming issues. Each topic has two main categories:

BEFORE YOU GO_ These are questions you might
consider asking when you are still in the planning
stages.
WHILE YOU’RE TRAVELING_ These are things you
can do in your actual vacation spot that will make
a difference.

The spirit in which we offer these ideas is one of creativity and encouragement. We realize that no one can do it all, but each of us can make choices, however small — and those choices can positively benefit the environment, the culture of host communities you visit and, ultimately, you as a traveler.
